Seven British Champions for Hawth!

In the last two months Hawth Gymnastics have had no less than 7 gymnasts crowned National Champions as well as many other fantastic results at the highest level.

Firstly, on the weekend of 13th - 15th November we had 16 men's artistic gymnasts competing at the Club and Elite Grades Finals in Birmingham, the boys had all qualified for the event a few weeks earlier and had been busy preparing to represent not just their club, but also the South East region at the finals.

The first competition on the Friday afternoon saw James B finish in the top 10 for Club Level 1 and gain an invite to a reward camp in Lilleshall with the national coaches later this month. Our Club Level 3  gymnasts Adam B and Jake B also put in a good competition to represent the club and the region.

Club Level 5 and 6 gymnasts took to the floor for the second round on Friday. At Level 5 Louis G took the bronze medal (and an invite to Lilleshall) and Mark S finished in a very respectable 8th place. Tom K took the gold medal and Karl H the bronze in the Club Level 6 Competition (British Champion #1) and alongside Hawth team-mate Cameron B the South East team also took the gold (British Champions #2 & #3).

At Club Level 4  Micheal and Ciaran competed and finished in 38th & 41st place overall.

We had 4 gymnasts competing in the Elite grades over the weekend Linus C at Level 2 who finished in 23rd place individually and 4th place with his team; Anton A (12th place) and Cody T (22nd place) in Elite Level 3 and finally Harry H at Level 6 who finished 10th overall and in 2nd place with his team.

The final category was the Club Level 2 where Frank R and Reece B where representing Hawth and the South East. Reece finished in 4th place individually and Frank in 14th. The boys and their South East team mates finished in first place and took the gold medals (British Champions #4 & #5)

Three weeks later our adult gymnasts were traveling to the National Sports Centre in  Lilleshall to compete in the Veterans British Championships.

Zoli (competing for the 2nd year), Rhys and Scott (first time competitors) had a fantastic day at the event despite having to compete without their regular coach (many thanks to Colchester School or Gymnastics for providing coach support in the form of Jess and Georgina).

Rhys competed in the 18 - 29 Novice MAG category against a very tough group, he finished a respectable 7th  with a 5th place on P-Bars.

In the 30 - 39 Novice MAG category Scott was representing Hawth and took the gold medal (British Champion #6)

Finally in the 30 + Intermediate MAG Zoli returned from finishing  7th last year to take the gold (British Champion #7)

Well done to our SEVEN British Champions and to everyone who competed over the last month.... With the Under 12 and Under 14 British Championships just around the corner that number could be increasing!

South East & Open TeamGym and Micro Team Competition

Hawth have been hosting the South East & Open TeamGym Championships since 2008 and the event has been getting bigger every year. This year (2015) with the addition of micro teams, GfA levels and visitors from the Southern, South West and London Regions the event was our biggest yet with 66 teams taking part.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the parents, coaches and volunteers who help to make this event a success year after year.

The day started very early (7am) with the TeamGym Competition. Hawth's youngest gymnasts in the Level 4 Mini Team (the Hawth Hobbits) started the day off well when they saw off three other teams to take the gold in both the open and the South East Competitions.

The Level 3 Youth Girls (Hyper Hawth) followed suit with a strong performance in a group of 5 other teams, the girls took some new skills to the competition, achieved the highest floor score of the day and finished in 3rd place in the open, and 1st place in the South East.

Our final full team to compete were the Level 4 Junior women who sadly lost a team member due to injury in warm up, despite this they bravely continued with their competition and performed their new floor routine for the first time - they finished in 3rd place in the open and 1st place in the South East.

The afternoon rounds of the competition consisted of micro teams of 4 - 5 gymnasts and the Hawth teams continued to impress. First to compete were 2 teams in the Level 4 Mini Boys competition, theses boys were competing in a difficult category with 8 teams to contend with. Harrison's Team finished in 3rd - just 0.05 away from 2nd - and Ryan's team came back from a problematic tumble with a fantastic and very high scoring trampette to finish in first place.

Next up were the Level 4 Youth Mixed teams who were again competing against in a large group (10 teams), Jake's team finished in a fantastic 3rd place and Tabitha's team finished in 10th place after loosing a team member to illness, but deserve recognition for their amazing attempt to continue without a key player.

Starting at 6pm, the final round of the day saw Hawth's top TeamGym boys represent the club in the Level 3 Youth and Level 3 Junior categories. The two teams of Youth boys (Mitchell's Team and Louis' Team) finished in joint 3rd out of 6 teams,  and the Junior Boys saw off 4 very strong teams from the London region to finish in first place and were the highest scoring micro team of the day.

Well done to everyone who took part! Full results can be found HERE

Hawth Rewarded for All Around Excellence - AGAIN!

Hawth had gymnasts spread across the South East, from Chichester to London, last weekend (24th - 27th September) and have again returned home laden with medals and awards.

Our 4 pieces girls were competing in the Chichester Invitational with their coach Karen, the competition was organised pretty rapidly so the girls did not have long to prepare but this did not stop them from performing very well.

In the Novice 8 years Group Analise gained a Silver on Bars Gold on Beam and Gold on Floor. Imogen gained Bronze on Vault, Silver on Floor, Gold on Beam and Gold on Bars.

For the Novice Girls aged 9 years Jamilia overcame her nerves and performed well but just missed out on a medal. Paige achieved a Bronze on Bars, Gold on Beam.

In the Intermediate 8/9 years group Bethany brought home a Silver on Beam, Gold on Bars and Gold on Floor.

In the intermediate 12/13 years category Annabella finished off the day fantastically with a Bronze on Beam and 3 Golds on Bars,Floor and Vault.

Our ever-busy Men's Artistic gymnasts were also out to impress at  the London Open, a prestigious event that has been running for over 100 years and attracts top talent from all over the world.

Harry Harrod finished 3rd in the Clayton Bolt competition seeing off over 30 of the top 14-year-old gymnasts in the country, his team mate Tom Killick could not compete on all apparatus due to an injury but he competed some new elements and finished in the top 10 on vault.

Patrick Smith competed in the Loveday trophy, having recently moved up to a more challenging age group, he performed well and his highest scoring piece was parallel bars.

Our younger gymnasts took part in the London Development Open, where they had another chance to perfect their grades routines for the upcoming national finals. All of the boys performed well, with many improving their scores from 2 weeks ago. Highlights included Louis taking 3 gold medals (floor, pommels & rings) and a silver (all around) in the Club Level 5; Karl taking a bronze all around and gold on parallel bars at Club Level 6; James winning the rings at Club Level 1; and Reece taking the silver all around medal for Club Level 2 with a gold medal and perfect score of 10.00 on vault. Full scores for all the categories can be found here.

The final success of the weekend was when Hawth were awarded the Orion Development Cup for the club with the most top 6 finishes across the whole the London Development Open. This award came with £250 prize money which to boys are very excited to put towards the purchase of a new rings frame in the near future.

This is the second time in a month that the Hawth MA boys have been rewarded for their overall excellence - having been presented with the President's Cup at the South East Qualifiers 2 weeks ago - and this just goes to show that our coaches' and gymnasts' hard work and dedication is not going unnoticed - GO HAWTH!!!
